Children’s Christmas Parties

Heartbeat aims to bring a bit of Christmas Joy to all the children in our programmes every year, as we host Children’s Christmas Parties in all the communities where we work. Corporations, churches, volunteers, and friends come together in the true spirit of Christmas, in donating toys, gifts, food, drink, entertainment and other treats for these parties. Our aim is to bring the message of Christmas to the children, but also to have lots of fun. The children themselves are also involved in the organisation of their own parties - they assist with decorating the venue, maybe putting meat on the "braai" and often perform songs, dances and poetry readings - as part of the entertainment.

For 2010, Heartbeat's target is to host Christmas Parties for 4 000 orphans in our projects. The parties usually take place during the last week of November / first week of December each year. We need your support and assistance to make this a reality.

Here are a few ways to get involved:

  • Make up a Christmas Goodie Box for a child (Take an old shoe box and fill it with treats for boys or girls. Clearly mark your goodie box with the gender and suggested age of the child - e.g. "Boy, age 13", and deliver / post it to Heartbeat's offices in Pretoria. Your Goodie Box should reach Heartbeat no later than mid-November 2010. Click here for shopping guidelines for your Christmas Goodie Box)
  • Donate un-used / outdated Christmas decorations (e.g. baloons, streamers, tinsel, etc)
  • Donate un-perishable treats (e.g. chips, juice concentrate, lolly-pops, fizzers, marshmallows, etc)
  • Donate perishable goods on the day of the party (e.g. rolls, wors, vienna sausages, margarine, fruit, chocolates)
  • Donate throw-away crockery and cutlery (e.g. paper plates, paper cups, sandwich bags, serviettes, plastic cutlery)
  • Donate transport money (to pay for transport to get children to and from the party venue)
  • Donate your vehicle and time (if you or your company has a bakkie, kombi,
mini-bus - we could use your help on the day of the party to get children to and from the venue.)
  • Make a general financial contribution towards the Christmas Parties (Heartbeat will use your contribution to pay for the above items 1 to 7 to ensure that all children in our programmes have a wonderful Christmas.)
  • Get your friends and colleagues involved and "adopt a party"
(Your company / church / circle of friends can "adopt" a particular party and arrange gifts, treats, entertainment for the children)
To get involved in this Christmas Buzz in any way, please contact Heartbeat's SACIN Manager, Karina Swann at karina@heartbeat.org.za

Your contributions, no matter how big or small, will greatly be appreciated!
